FROM sandcastles to skating, the second Activators event moved up a gear over the weekend.

The Activators programme is run by Sport Gisborne Tairawhiti. The first of three public events was at Waikanae Beach last week.

The second event ActivSk8, was at Alfred Cox Park on Saturday in the form of a skate competition.

Community events adviser Debbie Hutchings said it was a fantastic day.

“Kids who frequent the skate park regularly, got to showcase their incredible skills and be rewarded with amazing prizes provided by Kingpin. We had the fantastic team from Blue Light provide the barbecue.”

The under-eight competition was won by Rudy Abbott, 7, with Lochie Hutchings, 3, placing second. The open event was won by Murray Rawiri, with Luke Hutchings second and Raymond Pewhairangi third.

Tomorrow the third and last public event, Wicked Water Wednesday, will be held at the Olympic Pools.

A $2 pool entry will grant people access to an afternoon of fun from 2pm to 5pm, featuring bombs, tug of war and a sausage sizzle.
