WEEKEND senior hockey produced one of the most drama-charged rounds of the season with two big upsets — Ngatapa beat GMC Green and THC overpowered previously unbeaten YMP A.

THC produced a complete team effort against the 10-man YMP. As the match wore on, THC took full advantage of YMP’s depleted state.

Without bench players to call on, the YMP effort was hampered. THC piled on the pressure in the second half and raced away from a 2-2 halftime scoreline to a 7-2 victory.

Lytton Old Boys Masters produced one of their better performances of the season to defeat YMP B 4-2.

In the other senior men’s match, LOB A shared the goals around as they beat Gisborne Boys’ High School 11-1.

Five of the LOB line-up scored two goals each.

The standout result in the women’s competition, and close to the THC-YMP A result as the round highlight, was the win to Ben Holden Fencing Ngatapa.

The Tony Scragg-coached Ngatapa side pulled off probably the upset off the season to date in beating the Green Machine 2-0.

Close marking by Ngatapa kept a lid on the GMC Green attack and it paid off with a well-deserved win.

YMP B did well to hold the developing Gisborne Girls’ High School outfit to a 1-1 draw.

In the other senior women’s match of the round, GMC Kowhai and Paikea went end to end at each other.

In the finish, Kowhai took the honours 5-3 in arguably the most entertaining game of the round.

Men: THC 7 (Chris Fox 2, Hoera Mohi, Mason O’Dwyer, Tamanay Tuhou, Hylam Tukariri, Tei Mohi) YMP A 2 (Alex Hyland, Brendon Lennane).

LOB A 11 (Jack Kernohan 2, George Searle 2, Ben Fox 2, George Whitehead 2, Bryce Rickard 2, Jeff Marshall) GBHS 1 (Michael Ackroyd) not for competition points.

LOB Masters 4 (Derek Watson 2, David Fox 2) YMP B 2 (David Mackey 2).

Women: YMP B 1 (Daphne Maxwell) GGHS 1 (Breanna Hindmarsh),
