A WOMAN died in a smash on State Highway 2 just outside of Raupunga south of Wairoa yesterday afternoon.

The car she was driving left the highway and crashed into a bank.

Emergency services were called to the crash scene about two kilometres south of the Mohaka viaduct at around 3.30pm.

“The driver, a 65-year-old woman from Wairoa, was the only person in the vehicle and died at the scene,” police said.

“The vehicle was heading towards Wairoa.”
