Whangara Angus kept the East Coast Angus Bull Week clearance wheels rolling yesterday afternoon when 29 out of 30 of their young bulls went off to new homes.

In yet another highly successful commercial rising two-year-old bull sale, Whangara achieved a top price of $14,000 and a sale average of $8528.

Lot 6 was elevated in the order and was the first bull to sell at $14,000.

They were selling well late in the catalogue, with Lot 29 going for $9500.

Auctioneer Sam Wright from PGG Wrightson said it was a good solid commercial sale.

“The stock were well presented and we had plenty of people here for it,” he said.

“The bidding was brisk and we had bulls going all around the country.”

Stud operators Tom Sanson and Andrew Cribb were delighted with how it went.

“It was a strong sale right to the last bull,” they said.

“They were all good station bulls and they will move and work well for their new owners.”

They were also pleased with  the sale of semen packages they had, the semen straws from a stud in Australia and another stud elsewhere in New Zealand.

The best price paid for the packages was $310 a straw, with 10 straws in a package.

“It was a good sale overall for us and we picked up a couple of new clients,” Tom Sanson said.

“If you take away the big price paid last year (a bull sold to Tawa Hills at Motu for $92,000), our sale average keeps on rising, which is very pleasing.

“We also got strong community support again.

“We were inundated with people wanting to help us out on the day, which we really appreciated.”
