The Beef + Lamb New Zealand Community Support Day in Ruatōria yesterday drew a massive response, with around 200 people through the site at the town’s aerodrome during the day.

“It was a phenomenal turnout,” said event organiser,” B+LNZ’s Pania King.

Almost all the available free fencing gear — posts, wire, battens and staples — was given away to Coast farmers who needed it, along with some donated floodgates.

“It was an awesome day, and we had heaps of whānau through the gate.

“We were overwhelmed by the level of support for the day,” Mrs King said.

“Massive mihi to Te Rūnanganui o Ngāti Porou and Ngāti Porou Oranga, all our farming groups and Gisborne businesses who supported us.

“Thanks to the B+LNZ team who brought us all together today.

“Whenua ora, waiora, whānau ora, whai rawa!”
