All patched up with new badges that mark 60 years of service, the Royal New Zealand Navy Band will perform in Gisborne tomorrow to celebrate HMNZS Manawanui's first port visit to Gisborne.

In 2018, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern named Gisborne as the now dive and hydrographic vessel's home port. It is common practice for naval ships to be assigned a home port in New Zealand, and for that city to then award the ship and crew with a charter to the city.

Since its inception in 1960 the Royal New Zealand Navy Band (RNZNB) has had no formal badge. The RNZNB badge design recognises the service of the Royal Marine musicians and buglers who served the RNZNB for almost 200 years.

Ka whanake reretau matou, we move forward in harmony, is the band's motto.
