Several houses and businesses were without water yesterday afternoon after a water main broke at the intersection of Palmerston Road and Grey Street.

The water main was shut off from Grey Street between Palmerston Road down to Mitre10 and to businesses from The Bottle Shop to the ACC building for about four hours as contractors fixed the breakage.

The stretch of Grey Street from Gladstone Road was closed and Palmerston Road was under a lane closure from the Bright Street roundabout.

Gisborne District Council, in a post on its Facebook page, apologised for the inconvenience.
