War memorial looks splendid

The Patutahi War Memorial looks splendid just in time for Anzac Day.
It is interesting to note the soldier is not holding his rifle by the butt like the city’s War Memorial, on the Esplanade.
Can any readers shed light on this and the Patutahi War Memorial’s history please?
