Waikanae Surf Life Saving Club honours Ali with paddle-out ceremony

Waikanae Surf Life Saving Club members and others paid tribute on Saturday morning to the late Alistair Thorpe — a stalwart of the club and Surf Life Saving NZ — with a paddle-out in his honour in front of the surf club. Mr Thorpe died suddenly earlier this month.

“It was an outstanding day to pay tribute to an outstanding gentleman,” the club said on social media. “We paddled in honour of Ali and the legacy of quiet commitment and passion he left us with. We miss you buddy.”
