Most of the popular swimming spots in the region have been given the “all clear” as the district heads into the peak holiday season, but several have not.

The LAWA (Land Air Water Aotearoa) water quality testing results done on December 19 showed “unsafe” bacteria levels for swImming in the Hangaroa River at Doneraille Park, at Rere Falls, and the extremely popular Rere rockslide.

The water quality in more than 30 test sites across the region gets checked on a regular basis.

Tests done on December 21 indicated “unsafe” swimming levels in the Waimata River at Anzac Park.

The tests done elsewhere showed “safe” levels at Kaiti Beach, Waikanae, Midway and Wainui beaches, Makorori settlement, two of the test sites at Anaura Bay, Karakatuwhero River, Pouawa Beach, Sponge Bay, Tokomaru Bay, both ends of Tolaga Bay, the Uawa River at the State Highway 35 bridge, Waipiro Bay, Wharekahika River and Wherowhero Lagoon.
