Two youths have been arrested and charged in relation to an alleged robbery at a Gisborne dairy last Friday.

A worker at the Mill Road Store told the Gisborne Herald this week he had been left “really scared” after he was allegedly confronted by two people armed with a tomahawk and briefly chased during a robbery.

The two people allegedly broke into the shop’s cigarette dispenser, then made off with a bag full of cigarettes.

Police arrested two teenage males after executing search warrants at city addresses earlier today.

“They have been charged with aggravated robbery and other offences,” Detective Sergeant Brent Griffiths said.

Griffiths said one of the teenagers was remanded on bail to appear in Youth Court next week.

The other was due to make a court appearance this afternoon.
