Two hurt in crash on Wharekopae Rd

A WOMAN and a teenage girl were taken to Gisborne Hospital with injuries yesterday after the car they were in crashed on the Wharekopae Road near Ngatapa School.

Two other younger children in the vehicle were unhurt.

Emergency services responded to the crash at around 4.40pm.

“The woman had a minor to a moderate leg injury and the teenager some minor injuries,” a St John spokesman said.

A senior firefighter said the car left the road and was teetering on the brink of a drain.

“Fortunately passersby were able to secure the car and stopped it tipping over into the drain,” the firefighter said.

“We were able to get one of the injured out of the vehicle easily when we arrived.

“The others had got out themselves.” When The Herald went to print today no update on the condition of the injured was available from the hospital.
