The welcome mat was rolled out this morning for the second of two new tugs purchased by Eastland Port. The Ika Nui (second from left) was escorted into the port by the tug Titirangi (at left), the pilot boat, and Ika Nui's twin the Maki. The new tug arrived from China after a month-long voyage. The two boats are identical, with interchangeable parts, which will improve efficiency when repairs are needed. They have an 11-metre beam (width) and a 4.5-metre draft (depth into water). Each tug will have a bollard pull of 50 tonnes, and are part of broader expansion plans for the port's Twin Berth project. Picture by Liam Clayton
