Track works resume on Gisborne’s storm-hit Titirangi maunga

Work resumed this week on storm-damaged tracks on Titirangi maunga/Kaiti Hill.

One work site, known as Dropout 1, just above the playground, would remain closed until works were completed, Gisborne District Council said.

“The track entrance from the Puhi Kai Iti – Cook Landing Site and the port side of the maunga (hill) is also closed.

“Work will commence on that track from January 19 and continue for several weeks.

“Other tracks on this side remain open and can be accessed via Te Ikaroa Ā Rauru Walkway Bridge or from the Onepoto (Kaiti Beach) end.

“Looking ahead from mid-February, construction will begin on Dropout 2B.

“During this phase, access to tracks heading up the maunga from the Puhi Kai Iti side and Te Ikaroa Ā Rauru will be restricted.”

The council said walkers would need to use the entrances from the roadway or the track beyond the playground, which would be completed by then.

“These works will improve safety and stormwater management on the maunga. We appreciate your patience while contractors complete these important upgrades.”
