Approximately 540 cattle were sold yesterday at Matawhero, to a small crowd of mostly vendors, and there was a total clearance with good prices paid for all classes.

Arakihi Station sold a pen of six South Devon cross 18 month steers, weighing 453kg, for $1510.

This vendor also received the best price of $1300 for their pen of 10 - 18 month heifers, weighing 405kg.

Treble B Trust, at Motu, topped the 18 month bulls, their pen of 10 made $1585, they were in top condition, weighing 538kg.

There were several small pens of weaners on offer, 61 in total, Whanakawa Holdings received the best price of $790 for 4 steers, weighing 258kg.

Prices fell on a per kg basis compared with the February Cattle Fair.

Best prices —

MA cows $1.97 - $1.91; 18-month steers $3.48 - $3.13; 18-month heifers $3.21 - $3.04; 18-month bulls: $3.03 - $2.93.

18-month steers: Arakihi Station, 6, $1510; MD and CA Utting, 33, $1455; Blue Duck Farms P/S, 3, $1360; Marotiri Farm P/S, 15, $1325, 20, $1185, 2, $950; R and J Utting Ltd, 10, $1290, 2, $1020; Parklands Vineyard Ltd, 10, $1275, 20, $1155.

18-month bulls: Treble B Trust, 10, $1585; MD & CA Utting, 4, $1500; Koura Station, 9, $1480, 3, $1195; Riverflat Family Trust, 15, $1265; Marotiri Farm P/S, 14, $1150, 5, $895; M Sherriff, 17, $1050.
