The Dairy Goats section at the Spring Show had 33 goats from nine competitors, including four from out of town.

A section spokeswoman said the numbers were unfortunately reduced on the day due to recent family bereavements.

“Competitors who were able to attend were very appreciative of the support from the local businesses and the public attendance throughout the day,” she said.

“The Junior Showmanship class was watched with rapt attention as the four children who had entered paraded their goats for the Auckland judge, Herbie Blakemore and answered goat-related questions to show their knowledge.

“When the ribbons were awarded the children watching in front burst into applause quickly followed by the adults — it was a lovely moment,” she said.

The Silverfalls partnership from the Waikato had a very successful day taking out seven of the nine cups with local competitor Raewyn Bruce securing two. After much deliberation, Golden Sands Paris-Silverfalls Partnership was awarded Supreme Dairy Goat in the show.

Judge Blakemore said it was a very close call between her and the buck, Antrimdowns Ringo.

“But given the quantity of milk she produced while still maintaining a stunning form swayed it her way.”
