A  bright orange gazebo will be a fixture at the boat ramp on the Inner Harbour over summer.

Māori wardens will be there from Thursday to Monday each week between 10am and 6pm, promoting safe boating. Harbourmaster Peter Buell will be putting in an appearance too.

“They have lifejackets of various sizes that can be borrowed for your boat trip, and lots of safe boating information,” a Gisborne District Council statement said.

“There’s even some giveaways too, if you take a couple of minutes and help them out with a survey on boating in our region.”

Boaties are advised to check the weather forecast before they head out.
