EASTLAND Port handled 260,000 tonnes of log export cargo in October despite loading being affected by the weather for nearly a third of the month.

Ten log ships were loaded during the month.

The two big mobile log-loading harbour cranes that arrived earlier this week were unloaded today.

The BBC Everest will depart tomorrow to the Port of Tauranga to collect the third crane.

The cranes will improve safety and log-loading productivity at the port.

The cranes load logs directly into a ship's holds from the wharf, as opposed to using a ship's onboard cranes.
