A trio of Gisborne and Wairoa farm cadets featured in a Gisborne Herald article more than two years ago after they won cadetships throughout the North Island.

They have now finished their time and are all off to start their farming careers.

The trio graduated at the top of their various intakes.

Tom Powdrell from Wairoa was top cadet from Waipaoa Station, also winning the Woolshed and Shearing, Hostel and Top Dog prizes, amongst some other awards.

At Smedley Gisborne’s Fletcher Ware won the Sheppard Agriculture Emerging Data Farmer Award, the AFFCO and the Hawkes Bay Chamber of commerce annual proficiency award for all round excellence (top cadet), the Ballance Agri Nutrient Award for Stockmanship and the Smith Family Team Player trophy and the Shepherd prize awarded to the cadet displaying the best team player qualities.

Gisborne’s Zac Hall was the top cadet at Pukemiro, plus he was awarded the top horseperson, top dogperson and the Kingston Family Trust Homewood Farm practical demonstration of initiative on farm.

A great showing for Tairawhiti farming!
