Health NZ/Te Whatu Ora is reporting 86 active cases of Covid-19 in Tairāwhiti in the week ending midnight, Sunday.

That compares to 104 cases during the previous week.

Tairāwhiti’s total deaths remain at 41.

There have been 26,120 cases in the district since the pandemic broke out three years ago.

Sixty-four deaths were recorded nationwide last week including 21 in Auckland.

Two were in their 20s, one was in their 30s, two were in their 40s, two were in their 50s, six were in their 60s, 14 were in their 70s, 26 were in their 80s and 11 were aged over 90.

Active cases across the country totalled 6966.

There were 343 Covid patients in hospitals as at midnight on Sunday.

The number of patients in intensive care units was unknown.

New Zealand has lost 3748 people to Covid and the total number of cases is 2,569,656.
