Cameras and phones were out last night to capture the gorgeous sunset, including this shot by Mike Parsons at Waikanae Beach.
After a week of sweltering temperatures in the mid-to-high 30s, the district got a reprieve from the heatwave today as a south-westerly change blew through, dropping the temperature significantly
to a MetService-predicted high of 26.
It was warmer at 4am than the predicted temperature at 4pm. MetService meteorologist Tahlia Crabtree said the hot air from Australia had moved away. In its place was a cool south-west change that would stick around until Monday.
“The south-westerlies will ease off today, there is a bit of cloud, sea breeze and looking out, we have some isolated showers possible on Friday with another southerly change.”
The forecast of onshore winds and southerlies meant it was not expected to be overly warm, she said.
