Plenty of sun is on the way for the long weekend, bringing an extra treat for those due to go back to school next week.

The MetService forecast for the next three days is for sunny days and high temperatures, MetService meteorologist Kyle Lee said.

“It's not too bad today, a fine day with light winds and temperature-wise will see up to 28C.

“Tomorrow is very much the same, mainly fine with a few areas of morning cloud and a few isolated showers over the ranges but coastal regions should still remain fine.”

Temperatures in the city would reach about 27C.

‘Monday, again is much the same and the temperature looks like it will get up a bit. So it will get up to about 30C on Monday.”

Mr Lee said although a weak front was affecting the South Island, the North Island remained settled due to a large ridge of high pressure over that part of the country for the next few days.
