The police inquiry into the serious attack on a man walking in Valley Road one morning at the end of March has stalled and police have repeated their plea for information.

A 41-year-old man, out for his morning walk, was attacked by three male Maori in Valley Road between James Street and Gordon Street at about 6am on Friday, March 29. He spent a day in hospital being treated for facial injuries, stab wounds and lacerations.

“We did receive some information from the public about the incident, but were unable to establish a line of inquiry from that information,” said Detective Sergeant Daniel Kirk. “We have not been able to establish a motive for the attack.”

Detective Sergeant Kirk said while their inquiry had stalled at this stage, it remained ongoing.

“We still hope to get information that will help us find those responsible for the attack.”
