Gisborne will have a few more days of patchy weather data, as MetService technicians work to fix various issues with the airport weather station.
The latest update on the work from communications meteorologist Lewis Ferris indicates everything should be back in order by next week.
On an historical note, Gisborne's
weather data will once again come from the airport, as it used to until MetService built a new facility at the end of Oates Street in the 1990s.
The weather instruments were moved to Oates Street from by the former wooden control tower, which was replaced with a modern structure at the same time.
Since full automation was brought in, the Oates Street facility was sold off — but the instruments have now been shifted back to the airport as part of fixing the broken communication links.
