Opinion
Kia ora Lara,
Some of the points you alluded to in your opinion piece are factual whilst others are your own personal interpretation and experience of religion and in particular the Christian belief system.
As a liberal progressive Christian, my challenge to you and other like-minded rationalists is, don't be
too hasty in judging us because of your biased, preconceived ideas. Open your minds to the possibility that there are limits to human scientific understanding, where the natural order is superseded by the influence of the supernatural or spiritual dimension.
It is true that in the 21st Century organised religion no longer holds the same influence and power it previously held in Western society. Religion may be done and dusted, but spirituality and the things that give us meaning in life continue to flourish and influence the way we see ourselves and creation (the world we live in).
In very simple terms, at the heart of the Christian message lies this fundamental truth: Love God and love others as you would love yourself.
