Small grass fire in Dunstan Rd

FIREFIGHTERS were called to Dunstan Road near the former Prime sawmill site yesterday afternoon when a small area of roadside vegetation caught fire.

Fire and Emergency NZ sent an appliance and a tanker, with Rural Fire also responding to the 2.40pm callout.

“As it turned out, just one appliance was needed to deal with the small fire and it was put out quickly. The other crews were recalled,” a senior firefighter said.

There was no indication of how the fire started.
