Memory lane . . . this tiny house brings back good memories for the members of Kiwi band Six60, who are wending their way down the North Island towards Tairāwhiti as part of their national Grassroots Tour 2024. The band are being accompanied on their 24-date tour by a tiny house replica of the 660 Castle Street flat in Dunedin “where it all began” and which inspired their name. The band bought the flat in 2021. The replica is being set up at Four Square stores at each city and town visited including Four Square Mangapapa in Gisborne, Four Square Tokomaru Bay and Four Square Ruatōria. Fans are encouraged to head to each store to check out the house and get themselves Six60 memorabilia. Picture supplied,

Kiwi band Six60 are making their way across small-town New Zealand on their Grassroots Tour and that road will bring them to the East Coast early next week.

The band’s shows at Te Puka Tavern in Tokomaru Bay on Monday and War Memorial Theatre in Gisborne on Tuesday have been sold out.

However, fans who missed out on tickets will have the chance to experience “Six60 vibes” through local Four Square stores.

A miniature replica of the flat where the band members once lived together in Dunedin is accompanying Six60 to all 24 performances. It will be parked up at a local Four Square in each town visited. Fans will have the chance to check out the tiny house, snap some photos and grab exclusive merchandise.

The house will be at Four Square Tokomaru Bay on April 22, Four Square Mangapapa in Gisborne on April 23 and Four Square Ruatōria on April 24.

“Later this year, Four Square celebrates its 100th birthday, so it’s great to be able to start the party early with a unique experience at so many of our stores,”said Greg Stone, the head of Foodstuffs North Island Four Square.

“This collaboration with Six60 is representative of Four Square’s commitment towards community-focused Kiwi living, the cosy spaces we call home and, of course, not forgetting your roots.

“Every Four Square is owned by a local grocer family and each store has been busy coming up with a unique way to celebrate the Six60 tiny house coming to their community.”

Four Square Mangapapa owner-operator Jitesh Ravla said staff were buzzing with excitement .

“It’s a rare treat for us to be at the heart of an event like this and we feel very privileged for the opportunity to do something special for the community of Gisborne.

“The tiny house will be set up at our store on April 23rd and we’ll be playing the band’s biggest hits all day, as well as offering a bunch of $6.60 deals and putting on a sausage sizzle. It’s going to be a ton of fun.”

Meanwhile, police have been making preparations for the concerts and urge people attending both gigs to plan ahead.

“Police will be out in town, on the roads and at the venues,”  police area prevention manager Inspector Darren Paki said.

“Enjoy yourself, but don’t cause issues for other people.

“We’ll be running road safety operations both nights and breathalysing drivers, so if you’re drinking, arrange to have someone pick you up after the gig, or get a sober driver.

“Have fun but do it safely.”
