Eight Gisborne students have been awarded scholarships for their all-round excellence.

The Clark Charitable Trust awarded four scholarships to the value of $3500 and administered another four Turanga Young Achievers Awards of $3000.

The family charity has supported the Gisborne District for over 60 years.

Students were put forward by their schools and the winners were selected by the trustees.

The scholarships are awarded for up to five years or until they finish their degree.

The trust has been giving out awards for 16 years with over 25 students currently receiving support.

Lytton High School’s dux Shaun Rizvi, who won a Turanga Young Achievers scholarship, was pleasantly surprised with the award.

He said he was extremely grateful to be given the scholarship. “It also came as quite a shock to me when I found out. It will definitely help me out a lot for the following year.”
