These 11 Wiltshire ewes with 18 lambs at foot sold in the Matawhero sheep sale yesterday for $78, all counted. They were from Othmar G Zimmermann in the Waimata Valley, Six pens of ewes and lambs were offered by various vendors, prices ranging from $78 down to $63. Picture by Trevor Brown

A total of 528 sheep were sold at the Matawhero saleyards yesterday. Sales are being held each fortnight.

Prices for the 195 store lambs eased slightly on those paid two weeks ago, while prices remained firm for the 97 prime lambs.

Murray Fleming received $174 for four heavy prime lambs.

The 17 prime ewes sold from $105 down to $90.

Mangapoi Station Ltd, at Ruatōria, was paid $120 for 17 store male lambs and $100 for 51 store ewe lambs.

There were eight pens of ewes with lambs at foot; the best price paid was $78 for 11 ewes  and 18 lambs, all counted.

The next sale will be held on October 6.
