Photographed from the saddle, the head of a horse with pricked ears as if alert to the green landscape and blue hills beyond won Paula Newman first place in the adult category of the 2020 Gamagori photo competition.

A similar rural landscape, photographed from ground level and featuring a Highland cattle-beast sharing a hank of hay with a goat won Chloe Cook the under-18 category.

Gamagori is Gisborne’s Japanese sister port.

This year marked the 20th anniversary of the Gamagori-Gisborne Sister Cities photography competition. The theme was “simply green”.

The contest is a reciprocal exchange.
