A nationwide Te Whatu Ora Health NZ pre-employment vaccination policy is under development.

The Government’s Covid-19 vaccination mandate, or compulsory vaccination for health workers, has been lifted, but a Te Whatu Ora  Tairāwhiti spokeswoman  said Health NZ continued to support Covid-19 vaccination and other preventative measures for its workforce.

The Te Whatu Ora pre-employment vaccination policy working group continues to work through extensive feedback provided by staff, unions and external stakeholders on the policy, which includes Covid-19 and other vaccinations.

In the interim, local Te Whatu Ora vaccination practice continues to apply to staff.

“Our local approach is that if candidates or existing employees are not fully vaccinated against Covid-19, a role-based risk assessment is undertaken and prescribed mitigations are required.

“This is for the benefit of our workforce and patient community,” said the spokesperson.
