Fire and Emergency NZ has further delayed the introduction of a restricted fire season across the region.

FENZ had planned to review the fire season changes again tomorrow.

“However, the recent rain has put us below the threshold required for FENZ to be able to change the fire season,” said community risk manager for Tairāwhiti Trudi Hicklin.

“We will continue to monitor the weather and the fire weather data regularly and will let the public know when we plan to change.

“The fire risk remains moderate across the region but the recent rain has significantly reduced the risk.”

The open fire season continues, which means no permits are required for fires in the open.
