Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency will start resurfacing road works on State Highway 2 in the Matawai area today due to the wet weather forcing a further postponement.

The work was to have commenced yesterday.

It will involve the closure of SH2 north between Waioeka Pa Rd and Matawai during the day today and tomorrow from 7am to 5pm.

“Motorists can expect long delays,” Waka Kotahi said.

“During the daytime closures periodic stop/go traffic management will allow vehicles through the Waioeka Gorge in both directions (opening for approximately  20 minutes only) at approximately 9am, 12pm, and 2pm.
