Re: Most of us wish the King well, September 17 letter.
How true; the sentiments expressed in this letter are the sentiments of many of the older generation and a goodly number of the younger.
As I totter off into the geriatric sunset I now reflect upon the number of
monarchs under whom I have lived. I was born in the reign of George V, was a toddler under Edward VIII, a teenager under George VI and my adulthood under Elizabeth II; now a subject of Charles III and hopefully I will die in his reign.
I can think of nothing worse than becoming a republic and having a president of the likes of Trump or worse, a Putin, or some of the South American or African presidents, or horrors, a local broken-down politician.
