FIREFIGHTERS were called to a property in Valley Road on Sunday afternoon after food overheated inside a stove.

Fire and Emergency NZ responded to a 111 call about the incident at around 3.45pm and two appliances were sent to the scene.

“A woman and her two children living in the sleep-out got out without injury,” a senior firefighter said.

“We got there in time to stop the fire taking hold and there was only a small amount of fire damage to the area around the stove.”

The senior firefighter said it was another case of unattended cooking.
