The amended version of Relay for Life 2023 proved a success despite being disrupted by flooding and Covid issues of the recent past.
The revamped Relay Your Way raised $55,995 for Gisborne-East Coast Cancer Society, according to the Gisborne section of the website relayforlife.org.nz.
Gisborne East Coast Cancer Society fundraising and
events coordinator Shay Podjursky said the society wanted to express its “heartfelt thanks” to all those who had supported the fundraising campaign this year.
“Hosting large events such as Relay for Life is a huge amount of work in the background,” she said. “While it was so disappointing to not be able to offer it (the 24-hour, one venue event) this year, we are still really grateful for the efforts put in locally, especially given the long-term effects felt from Cyclone Gabrielle.
“We have our fingers and toes crossed for next year’s event,” she said.
