Mokairau and Wilencote Hereford studs will sell more than 50 young bulls between them next Wednesday and, despite the impact of the cyclones, they have all come through the season looking really well, as the pictures indicate.Pictures supplied

The ‘red’ cattle get their chance to shine in the sales rings next week when Mokairau Herefords at Whangara and Wilencote at Ngatapa present their rising two-year-olds this sales season.

The Reeves family at Mokairau will have 26 young sires all ready for action, and sale.

“They are sired by a mix of home grown and bought-in sires, and are an even line of bulls,” said studmaster Peter Reeves.

“They’re looking very well after a great, even though very wet, season.

“We are praying for a fine day on Wednesday.”

A dozen of the Mokairau bulls have been videoed and are up on Mokairau’s Facebook page, which includes an interview with Peter by Tony Glynn.

The Mokairau auction starts on-farm at 10am next Wednesday morning, June 7, with viewing from 9am.

The Humphrey’s family at Wilencote Herefords will put up 30 of their R2 polled Herefords for sale, on-farm as usual.

Matt and Megan Humphreys said despite the cyclone they have had a pretty good Autumn to get the bulls in a position to be presented well on sale day.

“We feel there is a strong line of bulls right throughout the catalogue.

“We look forward to welcoming everyone next Wednesday afternoon.”

The Wilencote sale begins from 2.30pm on June 7.
