So might a sea captain of old instruct his officers when he senses a change in the weather.

And so it is that the run of dry weather and some sunny days for the Gisborne-East Coast region is about to end.

MetService has issued an outlook for the days and weekend ahead which forecasts a dose of rain and wind.

The forecast will be more definite later today, but at this stage  a change from north-westerlies to cold southerlies is expected tomorrow.

Friday is forecast to see some showers with strong south-easterlies in the morning.

Saturday sees strong southerlies and more rain, which should clear for a fine Sunday. — RH

However, the low which brought the change has another go on Monday with the southerlies and rain returning.

Much of next week is expected to be cooler, with showers.
