There was plenty of demand for the large number of quality cattle on Tuesday at the monthly Matawhero Cattle Fair. Many of them were trucked out of the  district to new homes for a large bench of visiting buyers.

In all close to 2000 cattle were sold, prices being up slightly on the last fair in October.

The offering consisted mainly of yearling cattle, mostly steers.

L and D Hall at Waerenga-o-Kuri topped that class, receiving $1400 for 22 Angus steers, weighing 402 kgs.

Whareopaia Station at Tolaga Bay sold 31 yearling Angus heifers, weighing 337 kgs, for $1070.
