Opinion
I had no thought of altering my stance on writing to the paper on these issues until I read Roger Handford’s missive in Tuesday night’s paper. What a wonderful questioning letter he wrote.
Will Roger’s request be another that is treated with disdain and rejection by the Mayor and councillors,
or will we at last receive an honest reply. Does the council have the courage? I doubt it.
The public deserves the answers. What was the cost of the waka that adorns the entrance to our council building? (I asked this question a few months ago but, strangely, received no reply). Roger asked about the cost of the three adzes at the Bright Street entrance to our library. Will his question be answered? (Yeah, right.)
What are the cultural advisers, core design and artistic team going to be paid for their work regarding our new $10-$12m airport terminal?
How easy it seems to be for the council to spend our money. No matter how much they increase their loan debt by, it is you and I who will be paying for it.
