I read in the paper the Gisborne Olympic Pools has experienced conflict and intimidation from badly behaved patrons. The staff and public who use this vital facility should not have to tolerate such humbug from idiots who have no respect for the place or people.
Do we need improved pool security? A stronger no-nonsense approach with bullies? I have been impressed with the superior public relations and help from pool staff. We must support them.
I am no mind reader but I sense strong tensions in our area post-cyclone. We should not, however, cast our pent-up emotions on others. The pool offers us health and fitness, a therapeutic receptacle for our internal turmoil and angst so often displayed in letters to the editor.
Can Gisborne District Council ensure pool safety?Alas, council has so much to do and so little money to do it with. The issues overpower us.
It is topical now to blame councillors, colonials, trans this or that etc etc. Together we have our local Tairawhiti voice and solutions while central government has the money to fix problems. We need that money now and plenty of it! I say it’s time to unite transgenders and non-transgenders into a translucent future.
