POLICE, firefighters and road contractors were called to the Pine Street intersection with Stout Street mid-afternoon yesterday after a large poplar tree toppled across part of the road.
Downer staff cut the tree up and removed it.
The road was down to one lane for close to half an hour
while the tree was cleared away.
“The ground under the tree was pretty soft, and it was a big tree,” a senior firefighter said.
“That’s the only reason we can come up for it to fall. There was not much wind to cause it.”
