Contractors Siteworx Civil has made steady progress on cleaning the debris off the main city beaches this week after finishing at Kaiti Beach last week. Staff have been working at different locations along sections of the main beach from Waikanae to Midway.

“The job’s going well. . . though the most recent rain brought a bit more wood on to the beach,” a company spokesman said. The council has said the plan is for driftwood debris to  be cleaned up by Labour Weekend (October 21 to 23).

Meanwhile a site blessing for the new Midway Surf Rescue Community Hub (pictured in the background) is to be held on Monday at 5.15am, and the grand opening is set for midday on November 4.
