Helping out the Gisborne SPCA with pet food donations and bringing colour into people’s lives are two things David Preddey from Resene Colorshop is passionate about. That’s why he started the swap a can for a test pot fundraiser for the SPCA three years ago.

For the month of July people can bring in a can of pet food or dried food and swap it for a test pot of paint.

“The test pots can be used for art projects, crafts or to try out a new colour on walls. We’re all about  bringing colour into people’s lives and helping out our local SPCA at the same time — it’s a win win,” David says.

As a dog owner he knows the joy an animal can bring and he also appreciates the work the Gisborne SPCA does in caring for and finding homes for stray animals.

“We’ve had two dogs from the SPCA, and they became  a cherished part of the family.”

Azuki, a black Labrador and Staffordshire cross, is their latest family pet from the SPCA.

Being part of the highly successful Resene Hunger for Colour campaign that runs nationwide gave David the idea to do something similar for the SPCA. The Hunger for Colour campaign is a food fundraiser for the Salvation Army.

“Every can of pet food is greatly appreciated and we’re happy to be able to help.”

Donations are down on previous years but he is hoping they will pick up as the month continues.
