Police have indicated they will consider further charges in relation to the birthday party stabbing deaths of Chrysler Stevens-Mark and Kane Te Paa as their homicide inquiry progresses.

Two men, aged 25 and 29, have been charged with‘wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. They remain in police custody by consent to appear in Gisborne District Court early next month.

“Further charges will be considered as the homicide investigation into events at the 21st birthday party in Lytton Road last Saturday night progresses,” inquiry head Detective Inspector Dave de Lange said.

Police identified 40 or so party-goers they wished to interview and have spoken to a number of them.

“We will have staff working through the long weekend to continue that process and move the investigation further.”

One of two men (both guests at the party) seriously injured during the fatal fight has been discharged from hospital. The other man, previously listed as critical in ICU, is no longer in critical condition.

The Herald understands he has been moved to a general ward and is in a stable condition.

“Meanwhile, the work by police and other agencies continues to support Kane and Chrysler’s families.”

Kane Te Paa was laid to rest at Anaura Bay yesterday after his tangi concluded.

The final arrangements for Chrysler Stevens-Mark have not been made public.

Police continue their highly visible presence in Gisborne as reassurance patrols continue in the wake of the tragedy.

“Out-of-town police are still here supporting local staff and that will continue next week,” Det Insp de Lange said.

Police would still like to hear from anyone who was at the party on Saturday evening, or anyone who has photos or video of the party or altercation.

“If you have videos or photos, you can upload them via our dedicated online portal: middle-park.nc3.govt.nz/

“Other information can be provided via 105, either by phone or online at 105.police.govt.nz, clicking Update Report. Please reference the file number 240324/0768.”

Information can also be provided anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800-555-111.
