THE talents and language of some of this district’s young Maori speakers will be showcased on Maori TV children’s programme Pukana.

The Pukana crew were here last week to film three kura (schools) that will feature on the show later in the year: Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Horouta Wananga in Te Hapara, Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Nga Taonga Tuturu ki Tokomaru at Tokomaru Bay and Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Nga Uri a Maui in Riverdale.

“The show is a positive vehicle for celebrating our youth and our language,” said director Pere Wihongi.

“We allow space for tamariki to show their talent and express why they love their kura, all in te reo Maori. It’s awesome what they come up with. You see and hear what makes their kura unique.”
