More rain is on the way for the region, as another system sweeps in from the north, off the Tasman Sea.
While the rain has not been torrential so far, total accumulation means much of the district is once again saturated.
MetService warns a low pressure system is expected todevelop northeast of East Cape on Friday, bringing a strong and humid south-east flow to Tairāwhiti/Gisborne, from Tokomaru Bay southwards, and Hawke’s Bay north of Napier.
The rain is expected to continue with heavy falls through Saturday and into Sunday morning.
MetService says there is now high confidence of warning amounts of rain for southern Gisborne and northern Hawke’s Bay.
The agency says it is very likely that this watch will be upgraded to an Orange rain warning as more information becomes available on the duration, distribution and amount of rain.
