A WOMAN driving a car that came into collision with the rear of a log truck at Pouawa yesterday afternoon was treated at the scene by ambulance officers but did not need to go to hospital. The mishap happened at about 12.50pm and drew a resonse from police, Fireand Emergency NZ and St John.
“The woman’s car collided with the ring feeder at the back of the stationary and empty truck,” a senior firefighter said.
It happened on a road works site on State Highway 35 at Pouawa.
“The woman, who was the sole occupant of the car, suffered a minor knee injury that was checked by St John officers,” he said.
In another emergency call-out, the ECT rescue helicopter went to White Island in the Bay of Plenty on Sunday afternoon to get St John ambulance help to an elderly woman. The chopper was dispatched at about 1.30pm when the 81-year-old began to feel unwell after walking around the island for about an hour-and-a-half.
“We flew her back to Gisborne Hospital and she was very happy about it, because she’s from Gisborne,” a chopper spokeswoman said. She was admitted to hospital for observation.
