There are no street lights on Kaiti Hill after a power cable was disturbed during upgrade works.
A Gisborne District Council spokeswoman said power to the street lights had been turned off until further notice.
Upgrade works to the fitness steps unearthed a power cable that powers street lights on
the hill.
Although the cable has been covered in casing and isolated by safety barriers, it was decided that the best course of action was to turn the power off.
“This is due to its closeness to the fitness track and foot traffic expected through the area.” In the evenings, drivers should be mindful of pedestrians walking along the road.
