The driver of this truck and trailer unit and his passenger came out of this accident with only a sore knee between them yesterday.
The crash happened on the Wharekopae Road at Rere just after 9am.
“The driver told us the truck tipped on to its side quite slowly,” an emergency services spokesman said.
“The truck was carting water and other roading materials.” The road was kept open to one lane traffic until a crane arrived on the scene to recover the vehicle. Hydraulic fluid leaked from the truck on to the road. Firefighters were able to contain it and stop it getting into the roadside drain. They made a dam to collect it and used absorbant material to soak it up.
